inspired by the spirit of generosity and comfort.
Rye was created with a simple idea in mind: to celebrate the food, traditions, and hospitality of the Midwest and share them in a way that feels both familiar and thoughtfully elevated. Founded by husband-and-wife team Colby and Megan Garrelts, Rye brings chef-driven comfort food to the table through time-honored recipes, seasonal ingredients, and a deep respect for the people and stories behind every dish. Inspired by family gatherings, Sunday suppers, and the rich culinary heritage of America's heartland, Rye honors the flavors guests know and love while elevating them with thoughtful technique and exceptional ingredients.
Since opening its first location in 2012, Rye has become a beloved staple of the Kansas City dining scene, known for its warm hospitality, award-winning pies, and menu of classic dishes done right. Every experience is rooted in connection to place, to tradition, and to the people gathered around the table. Whether joining us for a casual meal, a special celebration, or a slice of pie with friends, guests are welcomed with the same spirit of generosity and comfort that inspired Rye from the very beginning.

Led by James Beard Award-winning chefs Colby & Megan Garrelts, our team is built on a shared passion for hospitality and craft. Together with a talented group of chefs, bakers, and front-of-house staff, we create an environment that feels welcoming, thoughtful, and genuine. We’re proud to invest in our people, support their growth, and foster a culture where creativity and care come through in everything we do.
Our menu is rooted in Midwestern tradition, brought to life with a modern, chef-driven approach. From crispy fried chicken and house-made pies to seasonal dishes and comforting favorites, each plate reflects a balance of nostalgia and refinement. We focus on quality ingredients, scratch preparation, and flavors that feel both familiar and memorable—whether you’re joining us for a full meal, picking up takeout, or ordering ahead for a special occasion.
