Join us in welcoming culinary historian and James Beard Award-Winning author Adrian Miller, of Soul Food: The Surprising Story of an American Cuisine One Plate at a Time. In the book he creates a representative soul food meal and then writes a separate chapter on each part of the meal. So, there are chapters on fried chicken, greens, black eyed peas, and more. Miller discusses the history of each food item and answers the following questions:

What is the food item?
How did it get on the Soul Food plate?
What does the food item mean for African American culture?

At rye, we will be doing our take on Adrian Miller's recipes for fried chicken, a lot of sides, and peach cobbler. Along with the meal, you will receive a copy of his cookbook to make soul food at home!
